Meeting between FLACSO Argentina Master’s Programs and the Organization Barrios de Pie

On August 29, 2026, a meeting took place between FLACSO Argentina’s Master’s programs and the organization Barrios de Pie in the institutional auditorium.

The activity was led by Agustina Gradin (State and Public Policies Area) and featured the participation of Ana Luisa López Molina, a professor in the Global Studies Programme, along with translation support provided by Julia Sislian, a student in the Master’s in Global Studies. During the meeting, we hosted Lucía Bianchi, from the Universidad Popular Barrios de Pie, and Nora Morales, a community care worker and Deputy Secretary of the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP).

The connection with the organization Barrios de Pie is highly relevant for our students’ education and for enriching their experience in the country. On one hand, first-hand engagement with an innovative social organization offers them a more comprehensive perspective on the country’s recent history, current social conflicts, and the capacity for popular mobilization that distinguishes our region. The opportunity to approach these issues as narrated and lived by the protagonists themselves serves as an ideal complement to the topics addressed in the classroom. On the other hand, it opens up collaboration opportunities for our international students to participate in the organization’s activities—ranging from community soup kitchens to English tutoring and support in addiction treatment. This allows them direct immersion into the local reality, enabling them to engage in long-standing institutional work that goes beyond mere charitable acts and forms part of an entire process of popular subjectivation.
